Mount Saint Vicinius and the Sacred Spring
Situated in a panoramic location in Musella, the Sanctuary of Mount Saint Vicinius is a place closely connected to the life and traditions of the saint. The sanctuary has been out of use for several years and takes its name from the nearby Spring of Saint Vicinius, renowned for its waters traditionally believed to have healing properties.
The Hermitage of Saint Vicinius
According to tradition, Saint Vicinius spent his life in penance in this very place, practising self-mortification with the chain now preserved inside the Basilica of Sarsina, which is used to impart blessings through the saint’s intercession.
The building, designed with a Greek-cross floor plan, was restored in the 1960s and is now largely abandoned. Nearby stands a recently restored small shrine, featuring an iron grille at its centre marking the spot traditionally identified as the saint’s hermitage.
The Sacred Spring
A short distance from the sanctuary, built on the summit, lies the Spring of Saint Vicinius, known for its waters traditionally believed to have therapeutic properties.
