Same journey, a new experience.

Route

The Saint Vicinius Cycling Route follows the original route of the Saint Vicinius Way, which was created during the celebrations marking the thousandth anniversary of Sarsina Cathedral, held between March 2008 and May 2009.

At the time, the local civic and religious authorities of Sarsina believed that a route dedicated to Saint Vicinius would help strengthen and preserve the memory of the miracle-working saint, the first Bishop of the birthplace of Plautus.

The cycling route – approximately 325 km long, with a total elevation gain of over 8,000 metres – was developed through meticulous route mapping, careful study of the territory and the installation of dedicated signage, with the aim of making the Saint Vicinius Way accessible by bicycle (mountain bike, gravel bike or e-bike) in complete safety.

The sites of religious and historical interest along the route are particularly significant: cyclists will encounter important landmarks of faith, including Sarsina Cathedral, the Hermitage of Camaldoli, the Sanctuary of La Verna, the Hermitage of Sant’Alberico, the Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte in Cesena and the Parish Church of Montesorbo, as well as numerous small chapels and wayside shrines.

The breathtaking landscapes of the Romagna hills, crowned by fortresses and castles, together with the ancient beauty of the Casentinesi Forests, are a feast for the eyes and a source of inspiration for every traveller.

The charming villages, artistic heritage and culinary traditions of our region complete the experience, offering everything that lovers of slow tourism could wish for.
