Mount Fumaiolo

Mount Fumaiolo, standing at 1,407 metres above sea level, is the highest peak in the Cesena area. Designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), it is an area of outstanding natural and scenic value.

The Sources of the Savio River

On the slopes of nearby Mount Castelvecchio lie the sources of the Savio River, an important water resource for the valley.

The site is marked by a column topped with a caveja, a traditional symbol of Romagna. This wrought-iron rod features symbolic elements such as a crescent moon, a rooster and the sun, and was traditionally used to secure or brake the yoke of a plough.

The Sources of the Tiber River

On the southern slopes of Mount Fumaiolo stands a commemorative monument marking the sources of the Tiber River. Topped with an imperial eagle and flanked by wolf heads, the monument bears the inscription “Here rises the river sacred to the destiny of Rome.”

The monument was inaugurated on 15 August 1934, in the presence of senior officials of the Fascist Party, accompanied by eleven marching bands.
